Tom Thomas to Lead New Board of Directors for the Mariner Networks Subsidiary of Odetics

ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24, 2000--Odetics Inc. (Nasdaq:ODETA) (Nasdaq:ODETB) Monday announced that Tom Thomas, president and chief executive officer of Scriptics Corp., has accepted the position of chairman of the board for Mariner Networks, an Odetics subsidiary.

Joel Slutzky, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Odetics Inc., and David Scheel, president and chief executive officer of Mariner Networks have also joined as members.

"I welcome the opportunity to play an integral part in growing Mariner Networks into an independent public company. My immediate focus will be to help put a dynamic board of directors and industry advisory board in place," said Thomas. "Over the next few weeks, I will be announcing additional new board members, all of which lead successful companies that compete in the broadband access market."

Thomas currently serves as president and chief executive officer of Scriptics Corp., a leader in B2B systems integration. He is the former chairman and chief executive officer of Vantive Corp. and served as senior vice president of e-Business and Information Services and vice president and chief information officer of Global Information Systems at 3Com. Prior to joining 3Com, Thomas served as vice president and chief information officer of Dell Computer Corp.

Slutzky is chairman of the board and chief executive officer for Odetics Inc. a company he founded in 1969. In addition to Odetics, Slutzky is chairman of Project Tomorrow and serves on the board of directors for the Discovery Science Center, KOCE, the Orange County Business Council and the Future Scientists & Engineers of America.

David Scheel has served as the president and chief executive officer of Mariner Networks since its formation in August 1998. Since joining Odetics Inc. in 1982, Scheel has served in various management positions including general manager of Odetics' Telecom Division and vice president of Odetics Inc., Mariner Networks' parent company.
