Patti Hart Joins Mariner Networks Board of Directors

ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 8, 2000-- Broadband Services Executive Brings Extensive Telecommunications Products Development Experience to Mariner Networks Board. Mariner Networks, a subsidiary of Odetics, Inc. (NASDAQ:ODETA & ODETB) announced today that Patti Hart, president and chief executive officer of Telocity, Inc. (NASDAQ:TLCT) has joined its board of directors.

Hart brings over 15 years of experience in the development and marketing of data and voice communication solutions to business customers. Her knowledge of broadband telecommunications lends considerable strength to the board headed by Tom Thomas, president and chief executive officer of Scriptics Corporation.

Board members Joel Slutzky, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Odetics, Inc., and David Scheel, president and chief executive officer of Mariner Networks, join Thomas in welcoming Patti Hart.

"Patti is a key addition to our board. Her experience in developing product introduction strategies and roll-out programs, coupled with her wisdom and diligence will be a great asset as Mariner Networks moves into the future," said Tom Thomas. "I am personally pleased that she has accepted our invitation to be a member of this board."

"Mariner Networks presents an exciting opportunity for me," said Patti Hart. "At a time when broadband services are rapidly expanding, Mariner Networks is developing products with real performance advantages over the competition, and setting in motion strategies to gain a significant share of the fast-growing access market. I am looking forward to collaborating with Tom and the rest of the board as Mariner grows to meet this challenge," Hart added.

Patti Hart has served as president and chief executive officer of Telocity, a leading nationwide provider of integrated broadband services to the residential market, since June 1999. In this capacity she has guided a rapid deployment of service throughout the nation and led the company through a successful initial public stock offering in March 2000. Before joining Telocity, Hart was president and chief operating officer of Sprint's Long Distance Division from 1994 to April 1999. In this position she oversaw all operational aspects of the division, which provides voice and data communications products and services to Sprint's customers, business and government long-distance customers. The division had over 17,000 employees, and revenues in 1997 of approximately $9 billion. In 1998, Patti Hart was named as one of the 50 most powerful women in business in Fortune Magazine's "First Annual Look at the Women Who Most Influence Corporate America," (10/12/98) issue.

"We are looking forward to Patti's counsel and vision," said David Scheel. "Her understanding of the issues facing voice and data integration in the enterprise, and the existing opportunities for aggressive carriers to capture premium services revenue, is well known. I'm reassured that Mariner's future in the broadband access arena will be brighter with her leadership, and support. She is warmly welcomed by all of us," Scheel concluded.
